'We have high bio-security protocols on all our sites, and have made changes from last year'

The threat of Avian Flu impacts the poultry sector as a whole.

That's according to Micheal Briody of Silver Duck Foods, based in Monaghan.

Since July of this year 60 cases of bird flu were confirmed, mainly in the 'wild bird' population.

Last year, the issue was prevalent in the Cavan/Monaghan Region, but it has now spread to the south of the country.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr Briody described the Avian Flu as a 'constant threat' that must be kept out.

As a result, the local business has introduced 'bio-security protocols' on all farms, which must be abided to every day, 365 days of the year:
